Ronnie Leyba, an 18-year-old from Montclair, California, tragically lost his life on February 4, 2022. The incident occurred at the Montclair Place shopping mall, where police responded to reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, they found Leyba with multiple gunshot wounds in the mall's east parking lot, near the LazyDog restaurant. Despite being rushed to the hospital, Leyba succumbed to his injuries. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner's records confirmed his death at the scene.

The investigation into Leyba's death revealed that the shooting was gang-related. An altercation had broken out before the shooting, leading to the fatal incident. In April 2022, police arrested four suspects in connection with the murder. The suspects, identified as Amarionte Wright, 18, of Pomona; Joseph Diazdeleon, 22, of San Dimas; Zellous Smith, 20, of San Bernardino; and Jamil Smith, 19, of Riverside, were all alleged gang members. They were apprehended following the execution of search warrants in several cities. Each suspect was charged with murder and booked into the West Valley Detention Center.

The arrests marked a significant development in the case, as authorities worked diligently to bring those responsible to justice. The Montclair Police Department continued to seek information from the public to aid in their investigation, emphasizing the community's role in solving such crimes. The tragic loss of Ronnie Leyba highlighted the ongoing issue of gang violence in the area and the devastating impact it has on families and communities.
