Juan De Dios (Johnny) Gonzales, born on March 4, 1995, passed away on May 6, 2022, in Anaheim, California. Johnny was a beloved son and brother who faced numerous challenges throughout his life. He was born with Ichthyosis, a rare skin disorder that caused his skin to be dry, scaly, and thickened. This condition made it difficult for him to be in the sun or dry weather for extended periods, as his skin would crack and bleed, or he would suffer from heat exhaustion or stroke.
These physical challenges led to significant pain and discomfort, impacting his ability to keep up with school and work.
To cope with his condition and the associated pain, Johnny developed a drug addiction that lasted nearly a decade. His addiction led to homelessness and the development of mental health issues, including psychosis and schizophrenia. Despite multiple attempts to stay in rehab, Johnny struggled to overcome his addiction. In the last few years of his life, he was frequently in and out of hospitals due to beatings and overdoses he experienced while living on the streets. In the month before his death, Johnny was hospitalized for gunshot wounds to the chest.
On April 30, 2022, Johnny visited his family for the last time. Tragically, a week later, on the morning of May 6, 2022, he took his own life. His family has been raising funds to cover the costs of his cremation and church service, as his father is unemployed and his mother is struggling with part-time work. Johnny was remembered as a talented guitarist who wrote his own songs and performed for friends, family, and audiences. He was known for his intelligence, creativity, and compassion, always eager to help others and teach them how to play guitar.
There have been no reports of arrests, suspects, litigations, or investigations related to Johnny's death. His passing was a result of the immense physical and emotional pain he endured throughout his life, compounded by his struggles with addiction and mental health issues.
