Dr. John Cheng, a 52-year-old physician from Laguna Woods, California, tragically lost his life on May 15, 2022, during a mass shooting at Geneva Presbyterian Church. Dr. Cheng was attending a lunch banquet organized by the Taiwanese congregation to honor a former pastor when the incident occurred. As the gunman, identified as 68-year-old David Chou from Las Vegas, opened fire, Dr. Cheng heroically charged at him in an attempt to disarm him.
