Diasia Sease, a 22-year-old resident of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, was found dead on July 20, 2022, at the Best Western Hotel on Orangeburg Avenue in Modesto, California. The discovery was made by hotel staff around 11 a.m., who immediately alerted the Modesto Police Department. Upon arrival, officers found Sease with fatal gunshot wounds. The investigation quickly identified Maurice Franklin Jr., a 31-year-old man from Stockton, as the primary suspect in the case.
