Jaylen Malone, a 19-year-old from Stockton, California, tragically lost his life on August 4, 2022. The incident occurred at the intersection of Morada Lane and Maranatha Drive. Malone was driving east along Morada Lane in a white Dodge Charger, accompanied by two juveniles, when an assailant opened fire on their vehicle. Malone was struck by the gunfire and succumbed to his injuries, while one of the juveniles was also injured but survived.
The shooting left the community in shock and prompted an intense investigation by local authorities.
The Stockton Police Department, in collaboration with the U.S. Marshals Task Force, worked diligently to identify and apprehend the suspect responsible for Malone's death. On April 18, 2023, Stacie Mischal, a 19-year-old, was arrested and charged with the murder of Jaylen Malone. Mischal was already incarcerated at the time for another homicide, the killing of 22-year-old Moses Richardson, which occurred on April 2, 2023. The new evidence linking Mischal to Malone's murder led to additional charges being filed against him.
The legal proceedings against Mischal are ongoing, with court dates scheduled for further arraignment on the charges related to Malone's death. The public defenders assigned to Mischal have not provided comments on the case. The Stockton Police Department continues to encourage anyone with information about the incident to come forward, offering a $10,000 reward for tips that lead to an arrest. The community remains hopeful that justice will be served for Jaylen Malone and his family.
