Prison Guard Archibald Benedict met a tragic end on January 9, 1901, while on duty at Auburn State Prison in Auburn, New York. Benedict was overseeing 17 inmates in the prison's cloth mill when he reprimanded one of the prisoners for talking. This seemingly minor infraction led to a violent confrontation.
