On July 29, 1973, 42-year-old Paul Rothenberg, a prominent distributor of pornographic films in New York, was murdered in Flower Hill, Long Island. Rothenberg had been making extortion payments to Roy DeMeo and his associate, Anthony 'Nino' Gaggi. Approximately three weeks prior to his death, authorities raided Rothenberg's film processing business and questioned him about financial transactions involving DeMeo.
