In what police have described as a tragic murder-suicide, 63-year-old Christine Braun Johnson was found deceased in her Oceanside, New York residence on a Monday evening in July 2013. Authorities had been called to her Nicole Court home to conduct a wellness check. Upon their arrival after 6 p.m., they made the grim discovery.
Inside the home, officers found both Christine Braun Johnson and her 73-year-old husband, James Johnson, deceased. Both had sustained apparent gunshot wounds. The investigation by the Nassau County Homicide Squad led detectives to conclude that James Johnson shot his wife before turning the gun on himself.
Neighbors in the community where the couple had resided for over two decades expressed their shock at the violent turn of events. They recalled that James Johnson had suffered a stroke approximately eight months prior to the incident. A friend of the couple reportedly made the initial discovery when they went to check on them at their home.
