In the summer of 2014, a violent encounter on a Brooklyn street set in motion a chain of events that would ultimately lead to the death of 38-year-old Leandre Hart. On the night of August 10th, Hart was shot, sustaining two gunshot wounds to his leg. The incident occurred at 2519 Atlantic Avenue, though he was initially found in front of 1508 Herkimer Street.
Following the shooting, Hart was rushed to Brookdale Hospital for medical attention.
For six months, he battled the severe complications arising from his injuries. Despite the efforts of medical staff, he succumbed to those injuries on February 21, 2015. The lengthy period between the shooting and his passing did not obscure the direct link between the two events, and the medical examiner's office officially ruled his death a homicide.
The investigation into the shooting and subsequent death of Leandre Hart remains open. The New York Police Department has continued to seek leads and information from the public that might lead to the identification and apprehension of the individual or individuals responsible for his death. To date, no arrests have been made in connection with this case, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The lack of closure has been a source of ongoing frustration and sorrow for his family and the community.
