In the early morning hours of a Sunday in August 2014, the life of 29-year-old Francisco Mercedez was tragically cut short in a sudden act of violence in the Hamilton Heights neighborhood of Manhattan. A resident of Highbridge in the Bronx, Mercedez was standing outside a deli on Broadway near West 151st Street when the fatal encounter unfolded at approximately 3:00 a.m. He was not alone; with him was 21-year-old Kenny Jimenez, a resident of the block where the shooting occurred.
