In a tragic turn of events on a Sunday in Manhattan, Moctar Sy was fatally shot inside the Home Depot where he worked as a supervisor. The incident, which unfolded in the lighting department of the Flatiron District store, was carried out by a fellow employee, Calvin Esdaile Jr., who had recently been fired by Sy.
The ordeal began when Esdaile entered the store and shot Sy multiple times in the chest and stomach.
The loud noises initially confused shoppers, with some mistaking the gunshots for the sound of dropped light bulbs. In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, paramedics rushed Sy to Bellevue Hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
Following the attack on his former supervisor, Esdaile turned the. 38 caliber handgun on himself, taking his own life at the scene. Police later confirmed that the incident was a murder-suicide, stemming from Esdaile's recent termination from his job in the lighting department where he worked with Sy. The event left the community and fellow employees in shock, with Home Depot expressing deep sadness over the tragedy and cooperating fully with the police investigation into what they described as an isolated incident.
