In the early evening of October 5, 2015, a burst of gunfire shattered the quiet of a New Cassel neighborhood, leaving a local man dead and a community searching for answers. Gomez Hurd, a 31-year-old male, was pronounced deceased at a local hospital shortly after the incident. The shooting occurred at approximately 6:16 p.m. in front of a business on Prospect Avenue.
