Death by Force

On July 9, 2017, Trooper Joel Davis, aged 36, was tragically killed while responding to a domestic disturbance call in Theresa, New York. Davis, a dedicated member of the New York State Police, was the first officer to arrive at the scene following reports of shots fired. As he approached the residence, he was fatally shot by Justin Walters, a U.S. Army soldier. Walters shot Davis in an area of his chest that was not protected by his bulletproof vest, leading to his immediate death.
