In the quiet community of Brentwood, a tragedy unfolded that ended the life of 79-year-old Rosemary Paul. On the morning of September 26, 2019, Suffolk County police responded to a 911 hang-up call from a residence on Barleau Street. Upon their arrival, officers discovered a grim scene inside the home.
Rosemary Paul was found with a fatal gunshot wound.
Her husband, 84-year-old James Paul, was also found with a gunshot wound and was transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, where he was pronounced dead. Investigators quickly determined the sequence of events, concluding that James Paul had shot his wife before turning the gun on himself in a murder-suicide.
Neighbors revealed that the couple had been dealing with significant health issues, with James Paul reportedly suffering from brain cancer for several years.
