In the late afternoon of March 24, 2021, a burst of violence shattered the daytime calm of a busy downtown Port Jefferson street, leaving 25-year-old David Bliss Jr. of Shirley fatally wounded. The shooting occurred around 3:35 p.m. in front of 122 Main Street. Responding officers discovered Bliss on the ground with a gunshot wound.
