Josue Bedell, a 47-year-old Black/African American man, was found deceased in his Mastic, New York, home on the Poospatuck Reservation on July 4, 2021. His family grew concerned after being unable to contact him since the previous day and requested that police perform a wellness check. Officers from the 7th Precinct responded to the residence on Poospatuck Lane on the morning of July 4th.
Upon entering the home, authorities discovered Mr. Bedell with a fatal gunshot wound.
The Suffolk County Police Department's Homicide Squad was called in to handle the investigation into his death. They processed the scene for evidence and began seeking information from the public to piece together the events that led to the shooting.
To date, no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Josue Bedell, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The investigation remains open and active. Authorities have periodically renewed their pleas for assistance from the community, with Suffolk County Crime Stoppers offering a cash reward for any information that leads to an arrest.
