On a cold December evening in 2021, the life of 19-year-old Jaden Cruz was tragically cut short in a burst of gunfire. The young man was in his own neighborhood, in front of a building at the Marlboro Houses in Gravesend, Brooklyn, when he was fatally shot in the chest. The incident occurred at approximately 5:11 p.m. on December 1st.
Emergency services were promptly dispatched to the scene at 2780 86th St. after receiving a 911 call about a person being shot.
Responding officers from the 60th Precinct and NYPD PSA 1 discovered Cruz, who lived just a short distance away on West 11th Street, with a gunshot wound. He was rushed to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn in a desperate attempt to save his life, but his injuries proved too severe, and he was pronounced dead.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, the New York Police Department launched an investigation into the homicide.
