On a Wednesday morning in Uniondale, New York, the life of 28-year-old Nikeka Chanette Poe was tragically cut short. On December 15, 2021, police responded to a call of shots fired on Laclede Avenue at approximately 7:59 a.m. Upon their arrival, they discovered Poe lying in the street with multiple gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into Poe's death quickly led authorities to a second location. Roughly two miles away at the Greenfield Cemetery on Nassau Road, investigators found the body of 31-year-old Thomas R. Priester of West Babylon. Priester was deceased from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The Nassau County police determined that the two deaths were connected and classified the case as a murder-suicide.
According to the investigation, the tragic events stemmed from a domestic dispute between Poe and Priester. Officials stated that the two had been involved in an altercation that escalated, leading Priester to shoot Poe on Laclede Avenue. After killing Poe, Priester then drove to the nearby cemetery where he took his own life. As Priester was identified as the perpetrator and was deceased, no other suspects were sought, and no arrests were made in connection with Poe's murder.
