In the city of Rome, New York, a domestic disturbance on February 7, 2022, escalated into a tragedy that ended the life of Theresa G. Nilsen, a 43-year-old female resident. The quiet of a Monday afternoon was shattered when police were dispatched to a residence on Milton Avenue following reports of gunfire. Upon their arrival, they discovered Ms. Nilsen inside the home, having sustained a fatal gunshot wound.
The initial investigation pointed to a heated verbal argument as the catalyst for the violence.
The immediate aftermath of the shooting was a tense scene, as the suspected shooter had barricaded themselves inside the house. This led to a brief standoff with law enforcement. After a short period, officers were able to take the individual into custody without further incident. The suspect was identified as Paleigh N. Iannarilli, the 23-year-old daughter of the victim.
