In the late summer of 2022, the community of Tonawanda, New York, was shaken by a violent act that claimed the life of 51-year-old Antoyn Williams. On the evening of Sunday, August 28, 2022, Williams was inside an apartment on Parker Boulevard when gunfire erupted. The attack also resulted in the death of 36-year-old Kristina Perez and left a 55-year-old male with serious injuries.
Williams and Perez were pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the double homicide led Town of Tonawanda Police to a suspect, Jameer M. Woods, an 18-year-old from Buffalo who was also known as “Jaja”. Authorities determined that the motive behind the shooting was a disagreement over property belonging to Woods's mother, who was Williams's ex-girlfriend. Woods used illegal handguns to carry out the attack.
In May 2024, Jameer M. Woods, then 20 years old, pleaded guilty to a slate of charges just before his trial was scheduled to begin. His plea included two counts of Murder in the Second Degree, one count of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, one count of Assault in the First Degree, and one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree. Subsequently, Woods was sentenced to 35 years to life in prison for his role in the deaths of Antoyn Williams and Kristina Perez and the wounding of a third individual.
