James Brian Swart, a 25-year-old police officer with the Prince George's County Police Department, tragically lost his life on June 26, 1978, in Hyattsville, Maryland. Officer Swart was shot and killed by a 15-year-old theft suspect in the booking area of the Hyattsville District Station. The incident occurred as Officer Swart was coming to the aid of Officer Albert Claggett, who had just been killed with his own revolver by the same suspect.
