Major Richard J. Beavers, a dedicated officer with the Prince George's County Police Department in Maryland, tragically lost his life on November 29, 1983. At the age of 37, Major Beavers was attempting to stop a robbery in progress when he was shot and killed. Despite being fatally wounded, Major Beavers managed to return fire, injuring the suspect. This act of bravery led to the identification and subsequent conviction of the assailant. Major Beavers had served with the department for 16 years
