Sergeant Mark Kevin Murphy, a 35-year-old officer with the Prince George's County Police Department in Maryland, tragically lost his life on September 1, 1988, during a narcotics search warrant operation in Palmer Park, MD. The operation was based on intelligence suggesting the presence of automatic weapons in the targeted residence.
