39 year old man shot multiple times while riding his bike On the evening of June 15, 2017, 39-year-old Wilbert Bell Jr. was riding his bicycle in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, when he was tragically killed. The male victim was in the 2700 block of Lockwood Avenue when he was chased and shot multiple times. Law enforcement officials with the Baton Rouge Police Department have described the killing as a seemingly random act of violence.
According to the investigation, it is believed that the suspects approached Bell as he was on his bike.
He then dropped his bicycle and attempted to flee on foot, but his pursuers gave chase. The suspects were identified by police as multiple Black males who were last seen leaving the area heading westbound on Chippewa Street in a white SUV. In an effort to generate leads, homicide detectives released surveillance video that captured the moments of the chase. The footage shows Bell running into the frame before a white SUV pulls up and two men jump out to pursue him. Shortly after, the SUV is seen speeding away from the scene.
Despite the release of the surveillance footage and public appeals for information, the suspects in the murder of Wilbert Bell Jr. have remained at large. As of the most recent available information, no arrests have been made in connection with the case, and it is considered an unsolved homicide. Police have urged anyone with information regarding the incident to contact the Violent Crimes Unit.
