In the predawn hours of August 29, 2017, the quiet of a Baton Rouge street was broken by an act of violence that claimed the life of 18-year-old Jocquez Ivory. A native of Natchez, Mississippi, the young male had his life tragically cut short on Scenic Highway. Responding to a call, police discovered Ivory's body around 1:30 a.m.; he had been shot eight times in what appeared to be a robbery.
Ivory, who had recently graduated from Natchez High School in 2016 and briefly attended Hinds
Community College, was in Baton Rouge for work. He was employed by a company that conducts inventory surveys for stores. Prior to this, he had served as a security guard for three months at the Louisiana State Penitentiary in Angola. During the fatal encounter, his attackers reportedly stole all of his possessions, including his car, as he attempted to flee.
Despite the passage of time, the murder of Jocquez Ivory remains an open wound for his family and community, as the case is still unsolved. To date, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified in connection with his death. The investigation into the young man's killing continues, leaving those who knew him waiting for justice.
