Melvin Mouldin, a 64-year-old Black man from Baltimore, Maryland, was killed in a late-night burst of violence that unfolded in Southwest Baltimore. Police were called to the unit block of South Morley Avenue at about 10:20 p.m. on Wednesday, February 3, 2016, and found two men down with gunshot wounds, the scene still fresh and chaotic as neighbors tried to make sense of what had just happened.
Mouldin had been shot in the head and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The other victim, a 21-year-old man, survived and was taken to a hospital for treatment, leaving detectives with a living witness somewhere inside a case that was already clouded by fear and uncertainty. In the first accounts relayed to investigators, witnesses said two masked suspects were responsible—figures who appeared, fired, and vanished before anyone could get a clear look.
