On a Tuesday afternoon in Baltimore, 31-year-old Laron Griffin was standing outside the Family Mini-Mart in the 1500 block of Pennsylvania Avenue when his life was abruptly cut short. It was February 28, 2017, and in broad daylight, a man approached him and opened fire, striking him multiple times before fleeing the scene on foot. One of the bullets tragically struck Griffin through the heart.
The investigation that followed involved a meticulous review of video footage from the area,
the examination of physical evidence, and interviews with witnesses who were among the roughly 20 people present at the time of the shooting. Through this police work, detectives were able to identify a suspect: 35-year-old Antonio Macklin, who was known in the neighborhood by the nickname 'Bone'. Evidence presented at trial suggested that the shooting was premeditated and stemmed from a confrontation that had occurred just days earlier between Macklin and Griffin.
Approximately a month after the fatal shooting, on March 30, 2017, authorities located and arrested Antonio Macklin in Owings Mills. He was subsequently charged with first-degree murder. Following a trial, a jury convicted Macklin of first-degree murder and two handgun offenses for the killing of Laron Griffin. For his crimes, Antonio Macklin was sentenced to life in prison.
