Zelma Anderson, a 53-year-old resident of Orkney, Kentucky, disappeared in August 1982. Her skeletal remains were discovered on December 23, 1982, in an abandoned strip mine near McDowell, Kentucky. The five-month gap between her disappearance and the discovery of her body raised many questions, and her death was ultimately ruled a homicide.
