In the autumn of 2018, the life of 22-year-old Ronaj Henderson of Bryans Road, Maryland, was tragically cut short. Henderson was last seen by his family on the morning of October 27, 2018. A week later, on November 2, his family reported him as a missing person, launching an investigation by Charles County Sheriff's detectives.

The investigation soon uncovered a grim reality. Detectives learned that Henderson had been shot by someone he knew while in the Bryans Road area. His body was then transported to a remote, wooded area off of Riverside Road and Smith Point Road in Nanjemoy, where it was discovered by authorities on November 4. Court documents later revealed the chilling detail that Henderson had been shot in the back of the head while he was asleep in a vehicle.

The investigation quickly led to a suspect, 26-year-old Janeal Jerome Thompson, also of Bryans Road. Thompson was located and apprehended in Arlington, Virginia, on the same day Henderson's body was found. He was extradited to the Charles County Detention Center on November 7 and formally charged with first-degree murder and other related offenses.

In October 2019, Janeal Jerome Thompson was sentenced for the murder of Ronaj Henderson. A Charles County Circuit Court Judge sentenced him to 65 years in prison for first-degree murder and related charges. This sentence was augmented by an additional 13 years for probation violations in two other unrelated cases and a separate heroin possession charge, bringing his total sentence to 78 years. During the sentencing, the judge characterized the crime as an 'execution,' noting that it was a senseless act of violence that occurred while four young people were doing drugs in a car.
