In the pre-dawn hours of October 30, 2018, the quiet of a Baltimore neighborhood was broken by a discovery in the 4700 block of Wabash Avenue. There, lying unresponsive in the street, was 38-year-old Lamont Crawford, a Black male. Initially, police were responding to a report of a man being struck by a vehicle. However, upon their arrival at approximately 1:00 a.m., a more sinister sequence of events began to unfold.
It was determined that Crawford had sustained a gunshot wound.
He was rushed to Sinai Hospital for medical treatment, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries. Investigators now believe that the initial report of a car accident was misleading and that Crawford was shot before being hit by a vehicle, suggesting a targeted act of violence rather than a random incident.
