Tameka Lawand Barham, a 42-year-old female, was found deceased on Friday, January 18, 2019, in Federalsburg, Maryland. Her death was the result of gun violence. Family members discovered her body in a shed on her property located on the 400-block of Brown Road after she did not report to her job at The Chesapeake Center in Easton.
The Federalsburg Police Department responded to a call from Barham's concerned family members shortly after 3:30 p.m.
Upon their arrival, emergency medical services personnel pronounced her dead at the scene. Due to the nature of the case, the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit was requested to take the lead in the investigation. An extensive search of the area was conducted, but the suspect was not immediately located.
A few days later, on a Tuesday afternoon, Stanley E. Ricketts Jr., a 49-year-old from Cambridge, Maryland, turned himself in to the Federalsburg Police Department in connection with the death of Tameka Barham. Ricketts was subsequently charged with first and second-degree murder, as well as first and second-degree assault. Following an initial appearance before a Caroline County Commissioner, he was ordered to be held without bond at the Caroline County Detention Center.
