In the quiet community of Sparrows Point, Maryland, the life of 40-year-old Ami Lynn Garrison was tragically cut short on Saturday, March 16, 2019. What began as a verbal argument between Garrison and her 41-year-old boyfriend, Daniel Allen Doran, escalated into a shocking act of violence that left the community in mourning. Another resident of their home on Willow Avenue attempted to intervene in the dispute, only to be threatened by Doran with a gun.
This individual was able to flee the residence and immediately contacted the authorities, reporting a domestic incident involving a firearm.
Upon their arrival at the scene around 8:30 p.m., Baltimore County Police initially treated the situation as a barricade, attempting to make contact with the individuals inside the home. When their efforts to communicate were unsuccessful, officers made the decision to enter the residence. Inside, they made a grim discovery in one of the bedrooms: the bodies of both Ami Lynn Garrison and Daniel Allen Doran.
The subsequent investigation by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined that Garrison's death was a homicide, and Doran's was a suicide. The official conclusion was that Daniel Allen Doran shot and killed Ami Lynn Garrison before turning the weapon on himself. Authorities reported that there was no prior history of domestic incidents between the couple on record. The tragic event left behind their two children. In the days that followed, family and friends gathered for a candlelight vigil at Sparrows Point High School, her alma mater, to remember and honor the life of a woman described as a beloved mother, daughter, sister, and a cherished member of the community.
