In the early morning hours of June 1, 2019, the stillness of a parking lot in District Heights, Maryland, was broken by a grim discovery. Patrolling officers happened upon an idling car in the 1900 block of Rochelle Avenue around 1:30 a.m. and inside, they found 26-year-old Davion Brandon and 28-year-old Antonio Taitano-Walker, both suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel were quickly summoned, but Brandon was pronounced dead at the scene.
Taitano-Walker was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he fought for his life for eight days before succumbing to his injuries.
The investigation into the double homicide led detectives to 29-year-old Kyeem King of Oxon Hill. It was determined that King was known to both victims and had been with them earlier in the evening at a rap video shoot. Evidence collected from the scene, including a handgun and a cell phone left in the back of the car belonging to King, placed him in the vehicle at the time of the shooting. While a definitive motive for the killings remained under investigation, the evidence was sufficient for authorities to move forward with the case.
In September 2019, Kyeem King was arrested and charged with first and second-degree murder, as well as other related charges, in connection with the deaths of Brandon and Taitano-Walker. He was held in the custody of the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status. In May 2022, a jury found King guilty of two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of use of a handgun in a crime of violence, along with other related handgun offenses. Subsequently, in September 2022, King was sentenced to 125 years in prison, with all but 95 years suspended, for his role in the brutal slayings.
