On a November evening in 2019, 31-year-old Jordan Taylor and his wife were in their living room on Clifton Avenue in Baltimore when their sense of security was shattered. A group of individuals attempted to force their way into the home using a crowbar. In a heroic act to protect his wife, Taylor blocked the door with his body. The assailants responded by firing multiple shots through the door, striking Taylor several times.
He was rushed to the University of Maryland's Shock Trauma Center, where he succumbed to his injuries. The intended motive for the home invasion was robbery, but it was later determined that the attackers had targeted the wrong house.
The investigation into the tragic death of the beloved Catonsville Y coach led to the arrest of four individuals. The suspects were identified as Aaron Butler, Kahlil Madden, Donta Holdclaw, and Elease Frazier. However, the path to justice was not straightforward. Before his case could go to trial, Donta Holdclaw passed away. Additionally, the charges against Elease Frazier were eventually dropped due to a lack of sufficient evidence. This left Aaron Butler and Kahlil Madden to face charges for their roles in the fatal home invasion.
In April 2023, Aaron Butler pleaded guilty to first-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a crime of violence, attempted armed robbery, and conspiracy to commit burglary. Subsequently, in September of that year, he was sentenced to life in prison with all but 35 years suspended. His sentence also includes five years of supervised probation upon release. Kahlil Madden was found guilty of two counts of conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit burglary and was sentenced to 40 years in prison. During the legal proceedings, it was revealed that Madden was also facing charges for the alleged murder of a fellow inmate in August 2021, while he was incarcerated for Taylor's murder.
