In the early morning hours of August 11, 2020, violence shattered the quiet of a South Baltimore neighborhood, claiming the life of 28-year-old Latonio Stewart. A Black female, Stewart was in the 900 block of Peach Street when gunfire erupted at approximately 3:45 a.m. The incident was a double shooting, leaving another woman, aged 44, wounded.
When police arrived at the scene, they found both women suffering from gunshot wounds. Medical personnel pronounced Stewart dead at the location.
The surviving victim was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of her injuries. The Baltimore Police Department's homicide unit took charge of the investigation into the fatal shooting.
Despite the initial investigation and calls for public assistance, there have been no subsequent announcements regarding any arrests or the identification of a suspect or suspects in the killing of Latonio Stewart. Information regarding a motive for the shooting has not been released to the public. The case remains an open investigation, one of the many unsolved homicides that have affected the city of Baltimore. As of now, no one has been held accountable for her death.
