On September 21, 2020, Fatima Kamara, a 25-year-old woman, was found with multiple gunshot wounds inside her Chillum, Maryland apartment. Police responded to a report of a shooting at the residence in the 2600 block of Queens Chapel Road at approximately 2:35 p.m. and pronounced her dead at the scene.
The preliminary investigation suggested that Kamara was shot by her boyfriend during an argument. Authorities identified the suspect as 22-year-old Winston Hughes, who lived with Kamara.
The Prince George's County Police Department obtained an arrest warrant for Hughes, charging him with second-degree murder and other related offenses.
Following the incident, a GoFundMe page was created to help with funeral expenses, describing Kamara as a person who was loved by everyone she met and who lived to help others.
With the assistance of law enforcement in Raleigh, North Carolina, Winston Hughes was located and taken into custody on Sunday, September 27, 2020. He was held in North Carolina, pending extradition to Prince George's County to face the charges against him.
