On the evening of September 25, 2020, in Capitol Heights, Maryland, a dispute tragically escalated, resulting in the death of 31-year-old Tyuan Thornes of Upper Marlboro. At approximately 9:40 p.m., patrol officers were dispatched to the 6800 block of Central Avenue after receiving a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered Thornes outside, unresponsive and suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
The investigation into the death of the male victim led detectives to identify a suspect in the fatal shooting. Homicide detectives arrested 19-year-old Damari Anthony Jones of District Heights in connection with Thornes' death. The preliminary investigation suggested that the shooting stemmed from a dispute between the two individuals.
Following his arrest, Damari Anthony Jones was charged with first-degree murder and other related charges. He was taken into the custody of the Department of Corrections, where a court commissioner ordered him to be held without bond. The Prince George's County Police Department's Homicide Unit led the investigation into the shooting.
