On September 25, 2020, Tyuan Thornes, a 31-year-old resident of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, was fatally shot in Capitol Heights. The incident occurred around 9:40 PM in the 6800 block of Central Avenue. When officers arrived at the scene, they found Thornes unresponsive and suffering from a gunshot wound. He was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
