On a cold December morning in 2020, the life of Tina Evette Harvey, a 52-year-old Black woman from Riverdale, Maryland, was tragically cut short. On December 9th, at approximately 6:30 a.m., officers from the Prince George's County Police Department were dispatched to the 6300 block of 67th Court after receiving a report of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Ms. Harvey inside her car, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
She was rushed to a nearby hospital, but her injuries proved to be fatal, and she was pronounced dead shortly after her arrival.
The investigation into the violent death of the grandmother quickly focused on a person from her past. Detectives identified her ex-boyfriend, 61-year-old Kenneth Aaron Tillery of Clinton, Maryland, as the primary suspect. The nature of their previous relationship led investigators to believe that the shooting was not a random act of violence, but rather a targeted and domestic-related incident. This belief was soon confirmed by the suspect himself.
Within a short period, authorities located and arrested Kenneth Tillery. During the course of the investigation, Tillery confessed to the fatal shooting of his former girlfriend. He was subsequently charged with first and second-degree murder, along with other related charges. Following his arrest, a court commissioner ordered that he be held at the Department of Corrections without bond, ensuring he would remain in custody as the legal process moved forward. The case highlighted the devastating and final consequences of domestic violence, leaving a family and community to mourn the loss of a loved one.
