Do you know who murdered Leonardo Tichenor? On a cold January day in Louisville, Kentucky, the life of Leonardo Vernon Tichenor Sr., a 36-year-old Black male, was tragically cut short. On January 22, 2011, Tichenor, a truck driver and the founder of the Chubby Boy Trucking Softball League, was fatally shot in the driveway of a residence at 5122 Rural Way. The events leading up to his death involved a marijuana transaction where Tichenor was reportedly delivering approximately 2.5 pounds of the substance.
It was during this exchange that an unknown individual shot him and fled the scene, leaving him mortally wounded.
The investigation into Tichenor's murder led to the arrest of one man, Desmond Billups, who was at the residence at the time of the shooting. Billups was charged with trafficking in marijuana and tampering with physical evidence in connection with the incident. However, law enforcement officials have maintained that Billups was not the person who fired the weapon that killed Tichenor. The individual directly responsible for the shooting has never been apprehended, and the case remains an open homicide investigation with the Louisville Metro Police Department.
Leonardo Tichenor was a father to five children, a son, and a brother. His death left a significant void in the lives of his family and the community where he was known for his passion for softball, which led him to create a league for fellow truckers. Over a decade has passed since his untimely death, and his family continues to await justice as the search for his killer continues.
