In the city of Baltimore, on a summer evening, the life of 29-year-old Markeece Lavante Jordan Sr., a Black male, was tragically cut short. On June 22, 2022, at a BP gas station in the 1900 block of Belair Road, a violent dispute escalated, resulting in Jordan being shot multiple times. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but ultimately succumbed to his injuries, leaving behind a family, including his wife and three young children.
The investigation into the shooting pointed toward a
conflict rooted in personal relationships. Detectives identified 43-year-old Keith Anderson as a suspect, discovering the dispute was over a woman with whom both men were acquainted. The conflict was multifaceted, as prosecutors later revealed that Anderson was angered by Jordan's relationship with his stepdaughter and also suspected Jordan was involved with his partner. This jealousy appeared to fuel a premeditated act of violence. Evidence gathered by police included text messages warning Jordan to stay away and the discovery that a week before the killing, Anderson had downloaded a photo of Jordan from Instagram onto his phone.
Four months after the fatal shooting, on October 24, 2022, Baltimore police located and arrested Keith Anderson. He was charged with first-degree murder, second-degree murder, first-degree assault, and several handgun violations. The case against him was built on a foundation of digital and physical evidence. Surveillance video from the gas station captured the entire incident, and cellphone data placed Anderson at the scene at the time of the murder. Further incriminating him were messages he sent to the woman at the center of the dispute just five hours after the shooting, in which he seemed to show no remorse.
During his bench trial before a Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge, Anderson's stepdaughter testified about the conflict between the two men. The prosecution presented evidence of a threatening phone call Anderson made to Jordan and noted that the password to Anderson's phone was the date of the murder. Despite the defense's argument that the surveillance footage was grainy and inconclusive, the judge found Anderson guilty on all counts in May 2024. In February 2025, Keith Anderson, who was on probation at the time of the crime, was sentenced to life in prison, with an additional 35 concurrent years for firearm charges, ensuring he would face the consequences of his deadly actions.
