Warden L. Pressley Reeves, a 24-year-old game warden from Reevesville, South Carolina, was tragically murdered on September 22, 1908. Reeves was ambushed and shot to death while returning to his home. He had left his residence around dusk to transport a group of cotton pickers to their homes. Approximately an hour later, he was found dead in his wagon, having been shot in the head with a buckshot by an unknown assailant who had hidden by the roadside.
