Rural Police Officer Elliott P. Harris, aged 26, tragically lost his life on July 17, 1932, near Fort Mill, South Carolina. Officer Harris was shot and killed after he stopped a man and his wife on Highway 21 for reckless driving. During the arrest attempt, a struggle ensued between Officer Harris and the man. In the midst of the altercation, the man's wife managed to snatch Officer Harris' revolver from his holster and shot him four times.
