It was revealed that on the day of her death, Williams had been in an argument with Torrence, which escalated to the point of him taking her life. Torrence, who already had a history of criminal activity, became the prime suspect in her murder.
Further investigation into Michael Torrence's activities uncovered a dark and violent history. Along with his brother and sister-in-law, Torrence was involved in a series of violent crimes, including two other murders that had occurred in February 1987. These murders were part of a robbery scheme orchestrated by the Torrence family. The victims in those cases were identified as Dennis Lollis and Charles Bush.
On April 6, 1987, Michael Torrence was arrested in connection with Cynthia Williams' murder. During his interrogation, he not only confessed to killing Williams but also admitted his involvement in the murders of Lollis and Bush.
