Death by Force

Dennis Carl Compton, a 39-year-old Deputy Sheriff with the Colleton County Sheriff's Office in South Carolina, tragically lost his life in the line of duty on August 6, 2008. Deputy Compton was responding to a residential alarm call on Sunflower Drive in Smoaks, SC, around 3:00 am when he was shot and killed. The homeowner's son, who had also been notified of the alarm by the alarm company, arrived at the scene and found Deputy Compton wounded. He used Compton's radio to alert dispatchers.
