On October 29, 2013, in Bradley, South Carolina, 26-year-old Chandra Marie Fields, a female, became a victim in a tragic mass shooting. The incident, which unfolded at a residence on Callison Highway in Greenwood County, was a murder-suicide perpetrated by her 27-year-old boyfriend, Bryan Eugene Sweatt. The catalyst for this horrific event was a custody dispute between Sweatt and Fields over their 7-month-old daughter.
Sweatt, who had an extensive criminal history, was reportedly upset
that he was not being allowed sufficient access to his child. On that fateful day, he broke into the Fields' family home and lay in wait for their return. His ambush resulted in the deaths of not only Chandra, but also her parents, 51-year-old Richard Allen Fields and 49-year-old Melissa Maroney Fields, and her two young nephews, 11-year-old Tariq Kenyon Robinson and 9-year-old William Asa Robinson.
After carrying out the murders, Bryan Eugene Sweatt then took his own life. The bodies of the victims were later discovered throughout the home by the Greenwood County SWAT team. Investigators noted that some of the family members had been shot multiple times. Fortunately, four children were spared from the violence; Chandra's two older daughters, the infant she shared with Sweatt, and a friend of the children were able to flee to a neighbor's house and report the horrific events that had transpired. Due to the fact that the sole suspect in the killings was also deceased, there were no arrests made in connection with this case.
