On a Saturday evening, the life of 27-year-old Tyrice Washington of Seabrook, South Carolina, was tragically cut short. On January 18, 2014, Washington sustained a fatal gunshot wound. The events that followed his injury were frantic and ultimately led to an arrest in his death.
That night, at approximately 9:55 p.m., emergency room personnel at Beaufort Memorial Hospital were met with a grim situation when a man, later identified as Tyrice Washington, was dropped off with a gunshot
wound. The individual who brought him to the hospital, Quinton Delaney Jr., reportedly entered the hospital and yelled, 'my bro just got shot,' before quickly departing in a white Chevrolet Tahoe. Medical staff were unable to save Washington, and he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.
Within minutes of the incident at the hospital, Beaufort City Police Department patrol units stopped a speeding white Chevrolet Tahoe on Highway 21. The driver was identified as 21-year-old Quinton Delaney Jr. Officers discovered a handgun in plain view on the floor of his vehicle. Delaney was initially arrested and charged with speeding, unlawful carrying of a handgun, and unlawful possession of a handgun with an obliterated serial number.
Further investigation by the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office revealed a more detailed account of the events that led to Washington's death. Authorities determined that Delaney and Washington had been drinking together in a vehicle parked on Delaney Circle in Seabrook. Both men were allegedly handling firearms when a disagreement broke out between them. It was during this dispute that investigators believe Delaney shot Washington. Following the shooting, Delaney drove around for a period before taking Washington to the hospital.
Based on the investigation, Quinton Delaney Jr. was subsequently charged with the murder of Tyrice Washington. He was taken into custody and held at the Beaufort County Detention Center.
