On December 22, 2016, Ruben Said Alvarado, aged 23, was fatally shot in Oakland, California. The incident occurred in the 8000 block of Olive Street at approximately 10:45 p.m. Alvarado was found at the scene with gunshot wounds and was later pronounced dead. This homicide added to the violence that year, as Oakland recorded a total of 85 homicides, continuing its struggle with elevated levels of gun violence and crime in certain neighborhoods.
