In the summer of 2015, on July 15th, the small town of Holly Hill, South Carolina, was rocked by a brutal act of violence that claimed the life of 28-year-old Krystal Hutto and three others. Krystal, a female resident of Holly Hill, was found shot to death in a home on Old State Road. Also killed in the attack were 58-year-old Jerome Butler, 17-year-old Shamekia Sanders, and 14-year-old Tamara Perry.
An eight-year-old boy was also shot but miraculously survived the ordeal.
The investigation into the quadruple homicide soon revealed a grim motive. Prosecutors would later argue that the killings were drug-related, with the perpetrators targeting the home in a search for drugs and money. Over a year after the murders, investigators made their first arrests in the case, bringing a sense of hope to a community desperate for answers. The individuals taken into custody were Robert Bailey, Luther Smith, and Antly Scott. A fourth man, Derrick Coleman, was also charged in connection with the crime.

After a trial that lasted over two weeks, a jury found Robert Bailey, Luther Smith, and Antly Scott guilty on multiple counts, including murder and attempted murder. The three men were subsequently sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. The conviction brought a measure of closure to the families of the victims and the community of Holly Hill, though the scars of that violent day remain. The father of three of the victims was also arrested on drug charges following the incident, with investigators stating his lifestyle had made his family a target.
