In the summer of 2016, a birthday celebration in Louisville, Kentucky, turned into a scene of tragedy. Andre Mosely, a 47-year-old Black male, was one of the victims in a triple shooting that occurred on the evening of Tuesday, August 9, 2016. The incident took place in the Parkland neighborhood, at a home on 26th and Kentucky Street, where guests had gathered for a 60th birthday party.
The festive atmosphere was shattered when gunfire erupted in the front yard.
Mosely, along with two other individuals, was struck by the bullets. He was transported to University Hospital, where he succumbed to his gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at 4:30 a.m. the following morning. Another victim, 36-year-old Lashay Dorsey, also lost her life in the shooting, while a third person was hospitalized with injuries.
Friends and family remember Andre Mosely as a father. Those who attended the party expressed their shock and grief, stating that the victims were innocent bystanders who were simply there to celebrate a joyous occasion. The Louisville Metro Police Department investigated the shooting, exploring whether it was a drive-by or if a suspect had approached the party on foot.
In the immediate aftermath, investigators appealed to the public for assistance, noting that despite the large number of witnesses present at the birthday party, many were unable to provide helpful information. At the time of the initial reports, no arrests had been made in connection with the deaths of Andre Mosely and Lashay Dorsey, leaving a community to mourn and await justice.
