In the early hours of a Sunday morning in January 2016, the life of 23-year-old Devante Smiley was tragically cut short. A shooting incident that occurred at a club on Scott-White Road in Hollywood, South Carolina, left him with fatal injuries. Another individual was also wounded in the altercation, sustaining a gunshot to the leg.
Following the shooting, Smiley was not immediately transported to a hospital. Instead, he was taken to a residence on South Carolina Highway 162.
It was from this location that law enforcement was notified. Upon their arrival, deputies from the Charleston County Sheriff's Office discovered Smiley on the ground, suffering from a gunshot wound.
Emergency medical services were dispatched, and Devante Smiley was rushed to St. Francis Hospital for treatment. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he ultimately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The second victim of the shooting was also transported to St. Francis Hospital and received treatment for their non-life-threatening injury.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, the Charleston County Sheriff's Office launched an investigation into the homicide. At the time, authorities reported that the motive for the shooting was unknown, and they had not identified any suspects.
